THE PANCAKE WEEK (MASNITSA) AT THE DEPARTMENT
Foreigners who come to study to our country not only get an education, but also get to know about the culture and history of Ukraine. Christmas and New Year were the first holidays that the students of the Preparatory Department of KNURE learned about. In March, teachers of the Language Training Department told about one of the oldest Ukrainian holidays – Masnitsa (Shrovetide). The listeners learned about the traditions of its celebration, folk festivals accompanying this holiday and its symbols – pancakes and dumplings. The teachers shared the recipes and little tricks of their cooking and of course treated the guys to homemade pancakes and gave them souvenirs.
At the end of the week, the foreign listeners plunged into the unforgettable atmosphere of folk festivities in the Central Park for Recreation and Leisure.
The guys really liked the festive week of Shrovetide (Masnitsa). But what especially touched and surprised them was the custom to apologize to everyone on the last day of Maslenitsa. One of the listeners said that when you say “Forgive me”, it makes a light heart.
